Balance….

It’s a love or hate relationship right?

I think there’s a big sigh that can come with that word because, it’s so hard to achieve.

What does work/life balance mean? Is it that perfect slice of pie for every area of your life that says, I’m perfect and do I everything wonderfully?

No. Heck, no. Because who could POSSIBLY do everything perfectly? Let’s talk about what work/life balance CAN mean for you, because you CAN be happy and make it work for you.

I’ll be the first to admit, I have a lot on my plate. And I would guess that you do too! People literally ask me all of the time, how do you do so much and fit it all in?

The answer is kind of simple. I know what my priorities are. I know where most of my time goes. I know what MY balance looks like. Is that for everyone? No. But you can find what works for you too.

And that’s exactly what I’m going to show you today!

I want you to really think about: do you feel like you’re living a life that you want to live or do you need to make some changes? Think about what you need to work on most.

For me my top time commitments are to my family and my work. Those are my top priorities because I have two young girls (4 and 2!) and they get the majority of my attention. I’m trying to grow a business, so that has to be number two right now.

Fitness and health are also very important to me, so those are also part of my everyday.

What does this mean….it means that the rest have less time in my day, week and month. It means that friendships, although extremely important to me are on the back burner right now. It means I’ve had conversations with my friends that said, I’m not as available right now, but let’s check in once a week and say hi.

For you it may look completely different!

  1. Think about what areas you need to work on the most. Download the cheat sheet to help you figure this out. Write down a few things that you can do to work on the areas that you’re not a hundred percent happy with.
  2. Be very specific. For example, if it’s fitness and health for you write down 2 or 3 things that you can do that will make you feel better and do better with this area of your life. Maybe it’s waking up 5:30 in the morning ,3 times a week or maybe it’s spending 30 minutes meal prepping on Sundays to make 3 different snacks. Be really specific so you can measure it and say, “Okay, I did this,” or “Okay, I didn’t do it. I need to do it next week.”
  3. Do this for each part of your life that you are not totally happy with. What do you need to stop doing, to make time for the things that you really love and the things you want to improve on.
  4. Think about: What makes you happy? It changes! I’m in the season where I have really young kids but that might be different for you. That’s why it’s so personal; figure out what a happy life means for you and once you do this, life changes so every 6 months re-adjust and look at this again and figure out what it means for you.

When you have your priorities in alignment and you have identified what’s important then its very easy for you to look at opportunities and look at things that come up and decide yes or no.

Remember, this is so personal. Try to break out of that thinking that balance has to be this perfect mesh of all areas. Create your life, so you are happy with it!
